SAFETY AUDITS, ABATEMENT PLANNING and DEVELOPING YOUR GENERAL SAFETY POLICY

Our complete contractor safety program, described elsewhere, includes our conducting home facility (OSHA) and quarry (MSHA) safety audits and abatement planning. These services, which could be important to your compliance needs and loss prevention, are also separately offered. If you believe that your formal safety policies and programs are adequate for your loss-prevention but you've never completed a facility safety audit, this is the way to ensure there are no serious exposures in your overall program.

Safety Systems will visit your home facility (or quarry if applicable) and conduct an in-depth safety audit including your safety and training records. The hazards and exposures we find will be confidentially reported to you in a hazard abatement format, listing the hazards from the most serious to the least serious.

The abatement format includes a specific reference to the OSHA or MSHA standard violated, provide an orderly outline for you to enter the person(s) responsible for correcting each hazard, the date for accomplishment and/or reasons for extended correction dates.

Hazard corrections must be accomplished within a reasonable time frame consistent with the seriousness of their imminent danger to workers. There must also be a legitimate cause for extended dates - such as awaiting the delivery of necessary material.

Based ultimately on your size and number of employees, safety audits may be accomplished in as little as one day on-site plus the time to research and prepare your report.

If you have a commercial fleet, we can also complete a D.O.T. compliance audit of your driver and equipment qualification files.

Increasingly, both OSHA, and states are favoring employers who have well-developed and managed general safety programs. The programs are a specific sign of management commitment to employee safety, equal in importance to profitability. Certain elements must exist in your program for maximum favorable impact on enforcement agencies - these include identification of responsible managers/executives, employee involvement, regular self-audits, an active Safety Committee who oversees and regularly improves the program and a disciplinary response for willful disregard by employees.

Safety Systems will create a high-quality program for you, with all recommended elements, quickly and cost-effectively.With a good program in place to guide you, maintenance becomes much easier.
